History

History of the First Republic period

1919

Establishment of the Graf, spol. s.r.o. company.

1920

The Graf company starts its business manufacturing malt extracts in Prague.

1921

The Graf company is transformed into a joint-stock company, and starts with factory production of stock cubes and other foodstuffs.

1925

The Graf company purchases the sugar processing factory in Byšice.

1926

Production plants are relocated and most of the employees from the branch in Chrudim are relocated to the branch in Byšice.

1930s

The Graf company becomes the biggest producer of soup products and soup spices in the Czechoslovakia (the biggest competitor is the Maggi company in Kralupy on Vltava).

Post-War History

1945

The introduction of the national administration in Byšice.

1949

Nationalization of the Graf company and the integration of the plant in Byšice to the "Great-Purchasing Association of Cooperatives", and subsequently to the "Industry of Soup Products".

1950

Birth of the Vitana name.

1957

First appearance of packet soups in the Czech market (goulash soup, pea soup with bacon, chicken soup, and soup with square noodles). Three of the original packet soups still rank among the top ten selling soups.

1958

Megrer of plants in Byšice and Kralupy nad Vltavou resulting in the establishment of the Vitana company, national enterprise (based in Byšice).

1961

Further incorporation of the plants in Pardubice (Franc & Sons), Prostějov, and Seredi. The company goes through what is referred to as "the calm years" of centralized economic planning.

History after the Velvet Revolution

1991

Establishment of the joint-stock company Vitana

1992

The Vitana company becomes a part of the Norwegian multinational concern Rieber & Son based in Bergen.

1993

Establishment of the subsidiary company Vitana Slovakia.

1997

The Emarko Varnsdorf (spices) and Bask Roudnice (rice, legumes) companies become part of the Vitana company. The history of Emarko started in 1884 when J.C.Horn founded the water mill for spices production. Bask was originally founded as a national enterprise in 1971.

2005

Discontinuation of production in Kralupy nad Vltavou and its transfer to the newly built facility in Byšice.

2013

The Norwegian multinational corporation Orkla , based in Oslo, becomes the new owner of the Vitana company.

2018

Integration of Vitana and Hamé, foundation of Orkla Foods Česko a Slovensko.
